About the PLAY
​​M. Butterfly tells the story of a French diplomat posted in China, Rene Gallimard, who is brought to ruin and, eventually, convicted for espionage, after a twenty-year affair with a Beijing Opera diva; who is in reality a spy; who passes information to the Chinese government, using Gallimard’s own fantasies of submissive oriental femininity to deceive and manipulate him.

Loosely based on the real-life relationship between French diplomat Bernard Boursicot and male Peking opera singer Shi Pei Pu, David Henry Hwang’s award-winning drama also draws inspiration from Puccini’s opera, Madama Butterfly.

OPEN CALL FOR PERFORMERS!

The Theatre Guild of Ancon would like to invite you to join us in our last production of 2023: THE GUILD’S HOLIDAY MASHUP, a variety show that celebrates our community, friends and family; and our December’s traditions while we prepare for a new year.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Scenic Artists (Singers, Actors, Musicians, Puppeteers, Dancers, Lip Sync performers, etc) who are able to donate their talents to help our non-profit foundation get funds for our 2024 building repairs and productions. 

Rehearsals starts at the end of October (schedule will depend on the cast’s availability). Show nights: DECEMBER 14,15,16 – 8PM

HOW TO AUDITION?

-Go to the AUDITION FORM or add your artistic CV there.
-Select a routine to perform(1 to 3 minutes).Could be a song (showtune, christmas carol or other), a monologue (not obligatory to be memorized), a comedy or dance routine.

-AUDITIONS will be held at the T.G.A. this saturday the the 7th of october from 1 to 4PM

-For ONLINE AUDITIONS, record yourself performing, upload the video online and add the link on the AUDITION FORM. Previously recorded routines are valid. October the 7th

¡Envía tu audición para nuestro siguiente proyecto: La Noche Roja!

La Noche Roja es una obra de teatro inspirada en literatura gótica y narraciones panameñas.

SINOPSIS:

Martes 16 de julio, 1935. Desde el cielo, un místico eclipse de luna llena tiñe de rojo el trópico panameño. En la tierra, diferentes historias convergen en la zona canalera, donde despierta la leyenda de una criatura sangrienta que ronda la selva. Bajo su mortal acecho, antiguos secretos y placeres oscuros florecen en la penumbra.
Antes que se acabe el día, la muerte habrá reclamado nuevos huéspedes en su morada.

ENTORNO:

La obra se desarrolla en un pueblo olvidado en la zona canalera de Panamá y en la selva que lo rodea.

PERSONAJES:

Gracia (20s-30s) – Determinada y liberal, se atreve a realizar un viaje peligroso para cerrar una vieja herida.

Esilda (30s-50s) – Estricta, devota a las enseñanzas de la Iglesia, busca la redención.

Toño (20s-30s) – Lujurioso, manipulador y sarcástico, busca aprovecahr cada momento al máximo.

Rachel (20s-50s) – Zoneíta adinerada, carismática y controladora, a la espera del momento más importante de su vida. (La actriz que interprete este personaje debe poder hablar inglés sin acentos y de manera fluída.)

John (20s-40s) – Panameño que vive y se comporta como zoneita, en plena crisis de consciencia.

La Criatura (20s-30s): Monstruo que ronda la selva durante el eclipse de luna roja. (El actor o la actriz que interprete este personaje no tendrá diálogos, pero se comunicará a través de sonidos).

PROCEDIMIENTO PARA AUDICIONAR:

1. Llena este formulario de audición.
2. Descarga este PDF y escoge el monólogo del personaje que quieres audicionar.
3. Graba un video interpreteando el monólogo y envíalo con tu formulario.

*Si te interesa audicionar para La Criatura, envía un video máx. 2 minutos donde demuestres tu corporalidad y capacidad de movimiento partiendo de esta descripción:

“Cuenta la historia que en estas tierras reina una criatura perversa.
Piernas de hombre, cara de diablo y garras de fiera,
su aullido de muerte embruja y aterra.

Maestro en dominio de fauna, flora y niebla,
se oculta del mundo hasta que la noche roja llega.

En cada eclipse de luna llena sacrifica a un humano en ofrenda.
El monstruo de la selva baña en sangre a las estrellas,
con ella embriaga a su dios naturaleza.”
